POWERPOINT ACTIVITIES
(PowerPoint 2007)
These are not the typical PowerPoint Shows. Most of the activities are to be printed out. Please use and change these ideas to fit your curriculum.
These ideas came from Tammy Motheral at region XI.
Shape and Counting Book
-Open PowerPoint
-Choose title layout (Under "Home" tab choose layout - then title)
-Enter title of book
-Decorate title page with shapes ("Insert" tab - shapes)
-Add new slide - title only
-Type 1 Square
-Add a square (to make a perfect square hold down the shift key)
Continue creating slides
2 Triangles
3 Circles
4 Rectangles
5 diamonds
-Print as handout - 6 slides per pages
-Cut out slides with extra space to the left of the page
Staple together

IDEAS: This could be used to make a book out of any part of your curriculum.
Transformations
-Open up PowerPoint
-Choose title slide layout (Under "Home" tab choose "Layout" and then title)
-Title it and put your name on it
-Insert new slide - Title only
-Type Reflection (flip)
-Add a shape (Under "Insert" tab - Click Shape and choose a shape) and duplicate shape (right click on the shape and copy, then paste)
-Click on one shape and flip it (Double click on the shape you want to flip and choose "Rotate" in the arrange box)
-Insert new slide - Title only
-Type Rotation (turn)
-Add a shape and duplicate shape
-Click on the shape and rotate it (Double click on the shape you want to flip and choose "Rotate" in the arrange box)
-Insert new slide - Title only
-Type Translation (slide)
-Add a shape and duplicate
-Click on one shape and slide it to the right
-Go to page setup (Under the "Design" tab)
-Change the orientation of handout to landscape
-Print handout 4 to a page

IDEAS: Complete the first 3 together, then ask students to create three more to demonstrate they understand the concept
Comic Strip
-Choose blank slide (Under "Home" tab - choose "Layout" then click on "Blank")
-Change orientation to landscape (Under "Design" tab - slide orientation)
-Create your title slide
-Create new slide - add graphic
-Add speech bubbles (Under "Insert" tab - shapes - callouts)
-Add text to speech bubbles
Hint: If you use the same graphic, after making the first slide, just duplicate slide
-Print as Handouts - 6 slides per page
IDEAS:
-Give each student a picture and have them create a comic strip from that picture.
-Have students switch computers to finish each other's comic strips
-Have students make a comic strip continuing a conversation between two characters in a story you have read
-Give them questions to answer in conversation form (maybe a different type of quiz or assessment)
T-Shirt
-Open PowerPoint
-Go to Page Setup (Under the "Design" tab)
-Under the "Home" tab change the slide to Blank
-Insert Word Art (under the "Insert" tab") and type "your name is T-rrific!"
-Move word art so it is about 2 1/2 inches from the top and 2 inches from the sides (Under "view" tab check the rulers box to show the ruler)
-Add a table with 4 columns and 6 rows (depending on how many students your have this can change) (Under the "insert" tab click table to add a table)
-NOW FOR THE ACTIVITY
Each student will rotate to each computer and type something positive about the student in a cell. Continue til all students have made a positive comment for each classmate and return to original computer
-Click on the table and under table tools click on -No Border
-Print
Fold in half and cut out T-Shirt

IDEAS: You can do this as a beginning of the year activity and have students write ideas about themselves
A Picture is a Word
-Choose a vocabulary word
-Go to www.pics4learning.com to download the picture to the desktop
-Open up PowerPoint
-Click on Word Art (Under the "Insert" tab) and type in vocab word
-Click and drag the word art to fit the slide
-Right click on the word art - choose "format Text effects"
-On the box that pops up, chose Text Fill on the left sidebar
-Then click "Picture or Textur Fill"
-Click "Insert - From File" and find the picture you downloaded
-Print the slide
Optional - create a text box and have students write the definition or a sentence

Tesselations
-Open PowerPoint
-Choose blank layout (Under "Home" tab choose "Layout" and then "blank")
-Add a shape (Under "Insert" tab choose Shapes)
-Change the fill of the shape to a different color (double click on the shape and choose Shape Fill)
-Copy and paste the shape and tile them to make tesseltions
-You may need to flip or rotate the shape. (double click shape - choose rotate in the arrange box)
Challenge: Create a picture shape - ex. pizza

True or False
-Create a graph in excel
-Copy the graph and paste into 2nd slide of PowerPoint
-On the first slide type your title "True or False"
-In the subtitle type "Are the statements true or false relating to the chart? Flip the tab to see answer."
-On slides 3 - 6 create questions pertaining to chart
Slide 7-8 leave blank
Slide 9-12 put answer Ture or False in BIG and bold font
Slide 3 = Slide 9
Slide 4 = Slide 10
Slide 5 = Slide 11
Slide 6 = Slide 12
-Print slides as handouts - 6 per page
-Cut slides 3 - 6 so you can flip up to see the answer
-Staple both sheets together

Accordian Book
-Choose Title Slide (Under "Home" tab choose "Layout" - then title)
-Enter Title for book
-Create additional slides for each page
-Add pictures, change font, add color
-Print as handouts - 4 slides to a page
-Cut out pages and tape slides together to form an accordian

IDEAS: Use this for notes, journal entries, vocabulary, spelling lists, parts of speech.... anything that you can add on to throughout the year
Flash Cards
-Open up PowerPoint
-Go to Page Setup (Under the "Design" tab) and select Portrait
-Create the following slides
-Odd Number Slides have a picture
-Even Number Slides have a word to match picture
-Continue until you have inserted all pictures with spelling word needed
-Print as Handouts - 4 Slides per page
-Fold the page in half (either tape or glue together)
-Cut out flash cards


IDEAS: Use with any spelling or vocabulary list
Paper Chain of Events
-Choose an event
-Open up PowerPoint
-Under the "Design" tab go to Page setup
-Change the height to 5 inches
-Create a title slide
-Create slides for each event
**For the chain you need to duplicate each slide so you will have the info showing no matter what direction
-To duplicate the slide, click on the slide on the left sidebar. Under the "Home" tab downclick on "New Slide" then click "Duplicate Selected Slides"
-Print slides as Handouts - 6 slides per page
Cut strips across page
Staple, tape or glue strips to form loops
Connect the loops to form a chain

Venn Diagram
-Open PowerPoint
-Choose blank layout (Under the "Home" tab)
-Draw two large circles overlapping ("Insert" tab click on Shapes and choose oval ***Hint: Hold down the shift key to create a perfect circle***)
Make the circles transparent (right click on circle - choose format shape, then choose "No Fill")
Create a text box for the first circle and fill in information
Create a text box for the second circle and fill in information
Create a text box for the intersection

Magic Mouse Over (Advanced)

Download EXAMPLE
-Open PowerPoint
-Choose blank layout (Under "Home" tab)
-Slide 1 leave blank
-Slides 2 - 5 type text in the center
Slide 2: Inner Core
Slide 3: Outer Core
Slide 4: Mantel
Slide 5: Crust
-On slide 1 draw a big circle and color it brown ("Insert" - Shape - Oval ***Hint: To draw a perfect circle hold down the shift key when you are drawing the circle***
-Create a slightly smaller circle and center it on top of the brown circle and color it yellow
-Create another smaller circle and center it on top of the yellow circle and color it orange
-Create another smaller circle and center it on top of the orange circle and color it red
- Add a text box ("Insert" - text box) and write "The earth is made of many layers. Move your mouse over the layers to learn more."
- Select the red circle - Click on "Insert" tab then "Action"
-When the Action box pops up - click "Mouse Over" tab then "Hyperlink to" then choose "Slide" choose Slide 2: Inner Core
-Repeat this for each circle
Orange Circle hyperlinks to the Outer Core
Yellow Circle hyperlinks to the Mantle
Brown Circle hyperlinks to the Crust
-Go to slide 1 and select all, then copy and paste everything on each of the slides
- Move title and add arrows pointing to the correct part on each slide
-Now view the slide show
