Notecard and Holder      Notecard Template                                             Example
                                                     Notecard Holder Template                                 Example

This is a wonderful activity that can be extremely beneficial in helping students master concepts that require classification, sequencing, summarizing, etc.

  1. Students open the notecard.dot template and add the contents of the note cards to the table. Students may also want to add graphics (see steps 4-6 in the Fan Decks section).

  2. Print the cards- you may not want to have students cut these until the card holder is ready.

  3. Students open the cardholder.dot template.

  4. Add graphics as indicated, making sure they are turned upside down.

  5. Add text to the existing text box (this will be the back side of the note card holder).

  6. Print the card holder.

  7. Cut the perimeter of the card holder and slit the edges as necessary.

  8. Fold and glue as indicated by the starbursts.

  9. Students may now cut their cards out and place them in the card holder.

Ideas: The cards may be created by one student and “played with” by others. For example, the cards may be a matching activity where words and definitions are matched. One student may summarize a story and list the summarized narration on individual cards. Another student would then sequence the cards according to the story.

  8. With all the pieces of the graphic still selected,
  9.  Move the graphic into place.

  10.  Continue to add all necessary graphics using the same procedure.
